This 114-unit addition to an historically preserved apartment building is located immediately adjacent to the Smithsonian National Zoo in the nation’s capital. Originally designed to be included in the initial construction in 1931, construction of the south wing was placed on hold due to the onset of the Great Depression. Since completion, the south wing development has won various awards for the quality of its design and attention to historic detail, including the Award of Excellence for historic resources by the American Institute of Architects.
